She’s all about that bass, that bass, that bass! That’s right, Meghan Trainor is all about that bass. This pop icon took the music industry by storm with her song “All about that Bass.” Born on December 22, 1993, this idol had an immediate affinity for music. Her family background furthered her passion for music. Her father was the church’s organist and her uncle was a recording artist.
Meghan constantly surrounded herself with music, whether it be listening to it, singing it, or trying to play the instruments involved. She began by learning piano at the young age of 7, then moving onto other instruments such as the guitar, ukulele, and other percussion instruments. She had written her first song at the age of 11! As she became more serious about music, her parents got her software, allowing her to record her own music! She spent four amazing years during high school singing for a local band and honing in on her guitar skills. By the time she was 18, Meghan had already recorded three albums and had signed with Nashville’s Big Yellow Dog Music, sending her music to Grammy winner Rascal Flatts, Sabrina Carpenter and many more.
Soon after, she signed with Epic Records and came out with her first hit single “All About That Bass.” The song spent eight weeks at the No.1 spot, making it the longest chart topper in Epic Records history! The single that was viewed by 160,000 people was soon followed by more top 20 singles such as “Lip Are Moving” and “Dear Future Husband.”
During her tour in 2015, she faced some vocal cord problems that led her to cancel the rest of her tour. She had surgery to fix her vocal cords, and was back on stage at the 58th annual Grammy Awards singing a tribute to Lionel Richie. That same night she won the Best New Artist Award - go Meghan! Now, she’s back on tour and continues to produce great music. Listen to Meghan wherever you go with us at NextRadio. Oh, and wish her a happy birthday this December 22!
